Ingredients:

4 eggs

500 ml (2 cups) of milk

100 g (1/2 cup) of sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

100 g (1/2 cup) of sugar (for caramel)


Instructions:

1. Prepare the Caramel:

In a saucepan, melt the sugar (100 g) over medium heat until it turns golden brown.

Immediately pour the caramel into the bottom of your ramekins or a large flan mold, tilting them to spread the caramel evenly. Set aside to harden.



2. Prepare the Flan:

Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F).

In a mixing bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar together until well combined.

Heat the milk gently until warm (not boiling), then gradually pour it into the egg mixture while whisking continuously.

Add vanilla extract and stir well.



3. Assemble:

Pour the egg mixture over the hardened caramel in the ramekins or mold.

Place the ramekins/mold in a deep baking dish and fill the dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides (water bath).



4. Bake:

Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the flan is set but still slightly wobbly in the center.

Remove from the oven and let it cool to room temperature before refrigerating for at least 4 hours or overnight.



5. Unmold:

Run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it, then invert onto a serving plate. The caramel will flow over the flan.
