Ginger bug juice soda Recipe:

Let’s turn our juice into a delicious soda the safe way. This healthy fermented soda has no carbonic or phosphoric acid to ruin your teeth. First up you have to make one of these cute little ginger bugs. It’s super easy I promise.

Ginger Bug:
Fill a glass jar a bit bigger than this with 3 quarters water. Add a tablespoon of chopped up ginger. Add a tablespoon of sugar. Give it a stir, then loosely cap it or put some cheesecloth with a rubber band on top. And there you have your cute little bug. Then put it at room temperature for the next 2-5 days and every day you need to feed it by adding another tablespoon of ginger and sugar. Now your bug is alive with healthy bacteria. The bug should be foamy on top.

Making the Soda:
Strain half a cup of the bug water. You can give the ginger back to the bug. And add the bug water to your soft drink bottle. I recommend using plastic over glass for safety reasons, trust me on this. Then top it up with the store bought juice of your choice. I recommend apple or mango blends, not citrus. Then store at room temperature to ferment. Should be ready in a day or two. Feel bottle often. When the bottle feels hard you’re ready to go. Try it!
